Here is the last Missing Link from editor Jay Nelson's collection, scanned here at City of Angels 8 for posterity.
In the Fall 1998 issue Tom Economus writes, "How My Healing from Clergy Sex Abuse Gave Me Strength to Fight Colon Cancer." Eerily, the unexpected death of Economus is Page One news in this edition, which also editorializes that Linkup will thrive without its charismatic director. However, The Linkup, grass roots organization for pedophile priest victims, disbanded soon after release of this Summer 2002 issue.
Reading the 22 editions of Missing Link, as I've scanned them here last two months, I see that news articles from the 1990s are strangely similar to stories about the clergy abuse crisis in the Catholic Church being published today. It reminds me of a quote from an ancient book that has provided wisdom and guidance for centuries:
"The most curious part was: however fast they went, they never seemed to pass anything.... Alice looked round her in great surprise. `Why, I do believe we've been under this same tree the whole time! Everything's just as it was!'... [The Queen said,] 'Here, you see, it takes all the running you can do to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!'" [Alice Through the Looking Glass, Chapter 2]
